Abstract—Adipokinetic hormones form a major group of neuropeptides, which regulates physiological homeostasis. They are members of a large family of structurally related peptides and known under the acronym AKH/RPCH family. AKHs are released from the neurosecretory cells of corpora cardiaca, neuroendocrine glands connected to the brain. The present study was undertaken with the objectives of amplification, sequencing, characterization of adipokinetic gene sequence of the O. exvinacea, a mango leaf webber. Here we report the partial DNA sequence of the AKH gene (GenBank Accession No. HQ269419) and its phylogenetic status. The results showed that the sequence obtained have a high homology to that of AKH II of B. mori. The study also attempts to demonstrate the systematic position and relationships of lepidopteran species, based on amino acid sequences of adipokinetic neuropeptides, by constructing phylogenetic trees.
