Hepatitis C (HCV) is a viral infection and blood-borne disease which cause damage to normal functioning of liver. The current study aimed at comparison of allopathic mode of treatment with homeopathic and hikmat treatment for HCV infection. The current comparative study was carried in the Department of Biochemistry, Baqai Medical University with induction of patients from the affiliated Baqai Fatima Hospital, Malir Homeopathic Clinic and Dawakana Hakeem Haji Asif, in the duration of ten months (January 2015 to November 2015).The study included 100 participants with cases (n=75) for screened and untreated patients of Hepatitis C. While (n=25) were healthy controls. Cases were divided into three group with (n=25) in each group with respect to the mode of treatment. Both male and female in the age range of 25-60 years were included. Biochemical parameters including ALT and ALPand estimation of SOD and TAC for oxidative stress were done by standard protocols. Independent t-test with statistical significance at p<0.05 was applied. It was found that ALT and ALP decreased significantly after allopathic and hikmat mode of treatments (p<0.05). However, this decrease is more after allopathic mode of treatment (p<0.01). Similarly, the levels of TAC and SOD increased significantly after allopathic mode of treatment (p <0.01). This increase was also seen with hikmat and homeopathic mode of treatments as well but statistical significance was not found. It is concluded from the study findings that in comparison with other mode of treatments, allopathic mode of treatment have extensive effect in treating patients with HCV infection. |
